Research and development

Indo Gulf has a focused R&D department, aimed towards introducing unique value-added products. It successfully introduced neem-coated urea under the Birla Shaktiman Krishidev brand in 2004 to provide a significant leap in the value proposition to farmers. Products such as zincated and sulphonated urea are in the pipeline. The company has strengthened its R&D infrastructure by setting up dedicated seeds breeding and trailing stations in different agro climatic regions in Uttar Pradesh and in Andhra Pradesh.

Indo Gulf has created a separate strategic business unit for the manufacturing, research & development, formulating and marketing of a range of pesticides and hybrid seeds. The pesticide production unit is situated in Barabanki and a dedicated research & development center for hybrid seeds has been set up at Hyderabad.

Extensive trial plots are laid out to test new varieties of hybrid rice and hybrid corn seeds. These new hybrids were developed in partnership with leading agricultural universities, breeding programmes of leading private seed companies, and Indo Gulf’s in-house research & development efforts. After extensive trials, Indo Gulf has launched the hybrid rice seeds BSHR 115 and 125 in kharif 2006 and hybrid corn seeds Super Gold in Rabi 2006. Farmers have been extremely satisfied with the performance of these hybrids, and plans are on to significantly increase the availability of these hybrids in the next season.
