Indo Gulf’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh is considered one of the most energy efficient plants in the country. The plant is operating at more than 100 per cent capacity utilisation and manufactured 10,72,500 tonnes of urea in 2010-11. Indo Gulf’s marketing activities span Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, which together account for over 35-40 per cent of urea consumption in India. A strong marketing, distribution and customer service network that includes the wholesalers’ network, Birla Shaktiman Accredited Retailers and Birla Shaktiman Service Centres, helps the company sustain its leadership position.
The first company to introduce the principles of Six Sigma in the agricultural fields, Indo Gulf has unique value-added products and services to help farmers achieve higher yield, quality and profits. With intense focus on R&D, the company plans to launch innovative products such as zincated and sulphonated urea and endeavours at various levels to empower the farming community through various programmes. Keeping in line with the company’s service-centric marketing strategy, the Birla Shaktiman Krishi Sewa Kendras, Shaktiman Krishi Swayam Rozgar Kendras and multi-input retail counters provide extension education and advisory services to the farmers.
Indo Gulf, with a re-assessed capacity of 864,600 mtpa, is the only fertiliser unit in India to adopt the world-renowned TPM practices under the guidance of Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM). It has won awards such as the TPM excellence award, Excellence in Consistent TPM award, International Asia Pacific Quality Award and the Deming Application Prize.
Indo Gulf has now strengthened its product offering by entering the seeds and agrochemicals business. This business has been built on partnerships with public and private institutions to bring the latest technology and products to the farmers. The company has set up its own R&D station for breeding hybrid seeds near Hyderabad. Birla Shaktiman seeds and agrochemicals have helped the company position itself as a total solutions provider to the farmers.
